# What should you ask before anyone builds you a system?

Ask six things: what production ready means to them, how a silent failure would be caught, what happens to the workflow at ten thousand runs a month, what a change costs six months in, whether to build it or buy it, and whether a hire would do it better. Each page below answers one, with dated sources.

## OCTYN beside the usual alternatives

Each row restates what its comparison argues at length, and each keeps the case where it is the better call. An empty cell is one no page has made a claim about.
