# What can a system carry in a telesales business?

What a rep should know before the phone rings. A telesales team calls from a list, and who is on it and why usually sits in a separate record, checked only when there’s time. A growth system researches each contact ahead of the call and hands the rep a brief on who they are calling and why, before they dial.

Kicker: A call goes better when the rep already knows who is on the line and why.

## How it sounds from inside

- A rep dials from a list, and what is known about the person on the other end depends on whether anyone wrote it down.
- The same account gets called twice with two different stories, because the last call isn’t in front of the next rep.
- A good call starts with knowing why this person is being called today, and that reason is often missing by the time the phone rings.
- New reps take longer to sound informed, because the context that would help them lives with whoever called last.

## Growth systems

The work is research that has to land before the call, not after it. That is what a growth system carries: every contact researched ahead of time, with a brief on who they are and why they’re being called, so a rep starts the call already informed instead of guessing on the line.

Boundary: Nothing goes out in the company’s name without clearing the line the company draws: a person’s approval, a check on its voice, or a daily window to read the queue and pull anything.

## Telesales, as built.

- [Hand every rep the brief before they dial.](https://octyn.co/casestudies/telesales-call-brief/demo) (Telesales, Designed): Before every call, the rep sees who they’re calling, why now, and what to open with.

### The system behind it

- **Research**: Each lead is read before anyone calls: what the company does, and what’s changed recently.
- **Score**: The lead is scored for fit, and for whether now is the right time to call.
- **Brief**: A short call brief is drafted: who they are, why now, and a suggested opener.
- **Qualify**: The brief lists what to check for on the call, so qualifying happens in the same conversation.
- **Call**: The rep places the call with the brief already in front of them.
- **Log**: What happened on the call is logged back to the lead’s record, for the next brief to draw on.

Boundary (prepares, never speaks): The brief is drafted before the call; what gets said to a lead happens only through the rep’s own voice on the call.

## What we would map first

- **Who is on the list**: Every contact due a call, and what is already known about them.
- **Why this call, today**: The reason this contact is being called now, drawn from their record.
- **The brief before the dial**: Who the rep is calling and why, ready before the phone rings.
- **What the call adds back**: What happened on the call, written back into the contact’s record for the next one.

## Before you commission one in telesales.

- **Does it write the brief, or the rep?**: The system prepares the brief from the contact’s record; the rep still makes the call and decides how it goes.
- **What happens to what was said on the call?**: It goes back into the contact’s record, so the next call, whoever makes it, starts from what actually happened last time.
- **Does it decide who to call?**: It surfaces who is due a call and why; a person still decides whether, when and what to say.
