# What is a Company Brain?

A Company Brain is one memory for a company: its projects, documents, decisions and the reasons behind them, asked in plain language. It reads the cheapest context first, keeps each project’s material apart, and shows where every answer came from. OCTYN plans its whole portfolio on one, called Brain.

Label: Running (our own)
Family: Operations systems
Partner: Alchemyst, Its memory runs on Alchemyst’s verifiable context engine.

## How it is built

- **read in**: Notes, documents, repositories and decisions, from where they already live.
- **tiers**: Context held in tiers, each wider and costlier than the last.
- **answer**: The cheapest tier first, stopping once there is enough, with the source of every answer.
- **kept apart**: Each project’s material stays its own. Two projects are never mixed in one answer.
- **remember**: Context carries between sessions, and what it recalls can be traced to where it came from.

Boundary (plans, never builds): It plans and it remembers. It never builds or deploys anything.

## What Brain does at OCTYN

Brain holds the state of every OCTYN project: what was decided, why, and what happens next. It is where each working day starts, instead of rebuilding context by hand.

It has two roles. The planner stays across every project and stops reading once it has enough to answer. The learning partner teaches one idea at a time, tied to what is being built that week, and writes progress back into the notes.

The business side runs as a sibling on the same memory, pointed at positioning, pricing and pipeline. It can read the product side when a question needs it, and never blends the two into one answer.

## The record

- 20 plus repositories, about 34,853 files under one workspace (recorded 2026-07-24)
- 141 markdown notes across 15 subprojects (recorded 2026-07-24)
- Two roles, five context tiers (recorded 2026-09-14)
- No retrieval accuracy measured yet: there is no fixed question set to test it against (recorded 2026-09-14)
