CompareOCTYN vs n8nChecked

n8n alternatives for a company that would rather not run the workflows itself.

The n8n alternatives worth weighing depend on what wore thin. When the trouble is looking after the server, n8n Cloud takes that over, and a team with an engineer who likes the builder should usually stay. A company that wants its work built and kept running by someone else should look at a system instead.

who keeps the server, and who keeps the work. Two columns. n8n: your team builds workflows; priced by executions; self hosted or n8n Cloud; an expert partner for help. OCTYN: a paid Consult maps the work; one fixed price, in writing; the builders run it; kept current after launch.

A self hosted n8n instance tends to belong to whoever ran the Docker command, and it keeps that owner long after they have moved on to other work. The workflows on it send invoices and chase leads, while the version underneath stays whatever was current the week it went up.

Work out which part wore thin first, because looking after a server and owning the work are separate problems.

What the platform says it does

Its home page calls n8n the platform for agents and workflows you can follow, built visually, with code whenever you need it. The workflow is the documentation, it says, with no handover write ups. You can self host it with Docker or use the hosted version.

The pricing page sells plans by monthly workflow executions, one execution being a whole workflow run however many steps it has.

PlanWhat the pricing page lists
Starter2,500 executions a month, hosted by n8n
Pro10,000 executions a month, hosted by n8n
Business40,000 executions a month, self hosted only
Enterprisecustom executions, dedicated support with SLA
Community Editiona standard self hosted version, on GitHub

A guide in its docs sets out the trade. Self hosting needs technical expertise to install and configure, and maintenance is your responsibility; on n8n Cloud, n8n handles hosting and updates. The expert directory finds partners for outside help. On n8n, your team or a partner does the building.

How the alternatives differ

If the server is what wore thin, the nearest alternative is n8n Cloud, which keeps the workflows and takes the upkeep. A team that dislikes the builder itself has other visual platforms to try. Hiring a partner changes who draws the workflows, so ask who will be watching them on a quiet Sunday.

A system is built around how one company runs, and the people who built it run it. OCTYN builds that kind. For an independent craft retailer, 115 follow ups came due across one weekend in August and nothing picked them up, because the check looked only at today and Monday already held 93 against a daily cap of 60. The scheduler now moves overflow forward when it creates a follow up. A cap like that belongs to one business, and somebody has to be watching when it breaks.

When staying on it is the better choice

n8n is the better choice when someone on your team likes building workflows and has the hours to keep them. Its home page says you can open any step and see what it does, which suits people who want to change it themselves.

It also fits when the data has to stay in your own environment and you have engineers to run a server; the docs list the self hosted Community edition as free. OCTYN is the wrong call for a company too early to have an operation to map, or one that needs only a handful of connections between popular apps.

How OCTYN works

OCTYN is an intelligent systems firm. Work begins with a mapping call, then a paid Consult that maps the work as it runs today, delivered within seven business days of kickoff. It ends in one fixed price for the build and a monthly fee to run it, both in writing, and if nothing is worth building, the Consult says so. After launch OCTYN runs the system and keeps it current. The page on what a system gives back counts the hours from your own numbers.

The instance can stay on its server, provided someone still remembers the password.

The first conversation is with the people who would build it. If there is a fit, the Consult comes next.
